Teacher Career Establishment Grant Eligibility

The application period for teachers who began their first teaching jobs in 2012 – 2013 has ended. Please check back in late June 2013 for updated information on the 2013 – 2014 award year.

This grant is open to all eligible classroom teachers. Applicants are not required to have loans owned or serviced by Iowa Student Loan or to have graduated from an Iowa college or university.

Applicant Eligibility

Applicants are eligible for the grant's most recent award year if they meet all* the following requirements:

• Graduated in winter 2011, spring 2012 or summer 2012, or will graduate during the 2012 – 2013 academic year.
• Are certified in a state-designated shortage area in Iowa or have a temporary, emergency or provisional certification in a state-designated shortage area in Iowa.
• Are contracted to begin their first classroom teaching job in a state-designated shortage area in an accredited Iowa school after July 1, 2012.
• Haven't taught in any other state prior to teaching in Iowa.
• Are not individuals approved for an Iowa Student Loan Teacher Education Loan Forgiveness Award between 2006 and 2010.
• Are not employees — or dependents or spouses of employees — of Iowa Student Loan.

Eligible Shortage Areas

Eligible teaching areas are those designated as classroom subject shortage areas by the Iowa Department of Education. The eligible teaching areas listed below are effective January 2013 and do not impact previous award recipients.
