Requirements
Recipient Requirements
Recipients of the Iowa Student Loan Nursing Education Loan Forgiveness Program must:
- Graduate and pass the required National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses.
- Be employed full time, as defined by the employer, as a nursing educator* in Iowa, or registered nurse providing direct patient care in Iowa within 12 months of graduation.
- Have one or more outstanding student loans in the following categories:

Other Qualifying Federal Loans |
| Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) subsidized or unsubsidized Stafford Loans |
FFELP subsidized or unsubsidized Stafford Loans owned or serviced by an entity other than Iowa Student Loan (U.S. Department of Education servicers) |
| Federal Consolidation Loans, including loans in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program (Direct Loan), consolidated with Iowa Student Loan |
Direct Loan subsidized or unsubsidized Stafford Loans (including Direct Consolidation Loans) owned and serviced by Direct Loan |
| Private student loans |
Other types of federal student loans eligible for a Federal Consolidation Loan |

*Part-time employment may qualify for partial-year forgiveness (nurse educators only).
Eligible Loan Forgiveness Employment Areas in Iowa
To qualify for the program benefits, applicants approved in the fall of 2008 or later must teach full-time as nurse educators* or work full-time as RNs in long-term care facilities in any Iowa county.
