Current Iowa Teacher Subject Shortage Areas

To meet the subject-area qualification, teachers must meet both criteria:

• The specific grade level endorsement
• Teaching assignment in the subject-shortage area grade levels

Criteria examples:

If You Are...	Then You Will...
A teacher with a K – 8 math endorsement, teaching only sixth-grade math in a middle school setting,	Not qualify.
A teacher with a 5 – 12 math endorsement and teaching only sixth-grade math,	Qualify.

Qualifying Subject Shortage Areas

The following tables define the qualifying subject shortage areas for the Iowa Student Loan Teacher Education Loan Forgiveness Program, using data from the Iowa Department of Education.
